CHAPTER 5: What Happened
“I was so young, I was just sixteen. He was my first love. I loved him so much, I even now still have feelings for him. We where both still in the closet. It ended badly, we got caught and he couldn’t admit it, so he pushed me into lockers and left me there on the floor. I couldn’t breath, he hurt me so much. I wanted to be free, no more lies. I came out in front of my whole school, I wanted him to stand next to me but he didn’t. A part of me knew he wouldn’t, because he was too scared I knew it hurt him to hurt me and maybe I wanted him to hurt a little, but I still loved him. Even after, he was all I thought of, whenever I was with a guy after that, all I could see was him, taste him, smell him. Then I met you, you where so different, whenever you touched me, I felt your love, I knew you where the only one for me. But then when I saw him it brought back all those memories, I still can remember the smell of his hair and the taste of his lips,,,,,,,,,, What is wrong with me? Steven cried.
Mat looked at Steven, his beloved “No one ever forgets their first love, but whatever you feel, we still love each other and that is what matters. He hurt you once I will not let him hurt you again.”
Steven looked at Mat and could see he had started to cry” I don’t mean to make you cry.” Steven said.
Mat and Steven held each other tight, as if they where never going to let go. Mat leaned in and kiss Steven lightly on the cheek he could taste salt from his tears. “Tell me what I can do to make you happy?”
Ben and Birdie sat in Ben’s room wondering what had happened. They never have seen their father cry
before, accept at their mothers funeral. “What happened between Dad and Mr. Dixon?” Birdie asked.
“I don’t know, but it couldn’t of been good.” Ben said.
Kevin, Evan, John and Jack stayed at the restaurant and finished their meals. They all got into the car and drove towards the Dixon’s. While in the car they discussed what happened before, being they where not exactly sure what had happened.
“What happened back there?” Kevin yelled while driving the car.
“I don’t know Mr. Granger, what do you think dad?” Jack asked.
John was not paying attention he had been in his own little world since they had left.
“What?” John said.
“What do you think that was all about?” Jack asked.
John thought to himself for a moment and said “That was Steven Carter, we didn’t get along to well in school when we were younger.”
Kevin shocked realizing who that was “That was Carter.”
“Yes” John said softly.
When they came to a red light Kevin turned around and said to Jack and Evan “You can’t hang out with
those kids, their father is queer.”
Jack and Evan looked at each other.
“But that doesn’t have anything to do with them.” Evan said softly, being he has always been scared of his dad.
Kevin looked at his son “You will not hang out with those two, because I am your father and you will
listen to me.”
“Well what about you dad, that is unfair not letting me see them because of their father.” Jack said.
John just muttered “Maybe it would be better if you didn’t see them.”
Ben and Birdie couldn’t stop thinking about the events from earlier that day, they finally found some friends and then their dad flips out.
“We should go talk to them.” Birdie said.
“Okay, lets go see what is going on.” Ben said.
Ben and Birdie got up and went and knocked on their parents door.
“Dad are you okay?’ Birdie asked, through the door.
“Hold on.” Steven said.
It took a few seconds, then Steven opened the door, he was all sweaty and the room smelled of sex.
“Well you couldn’t be that bad off.” Ben giggled.
Steven was shocked by what his son had said “What was that young man.”
“Nothing, nothing.” Ben said.
Steven closed the door behind him.
“I am sorry for earlier today, but I couldn’t help myself.” Steven said softly
‘Why where you so upset?” Birdie asked.
“John, Kevin and I have a bit of a past.” Steven said.
“What do you mean a past?” Ben asked.
“It doesn’t matter, it was so long ago, but I hadn’t seen either of them since, so when I say them some bad memories came back to me.”
“What kind of memories?” Birdie asked.
Steven looked at his children, he couldn’t tell them, It hurt too much. “Just know I am okay now, and that everything will be fine.”
Before Ben and Birdie could say anything Steven went back into his room and closed the door.
“Well that didn’t help at all.” Ben said.
“Hey maybe we can ask Jack?” Birdie said “His dad may have told him.”
“Okay, but first lets get some sleep, or I won’t be able to get up in the morning.” Ben said.
“So you plan to see Evan then.” Birdie said laughing.
“You sick girl.” Ben said realizing what she meant.”
“What?” Birdie said.
Ben smiled at Birdie then went to his room, and then Birdie went to hers. Tomorrow will be a new day.
