CHAPTER 4: Basingstoke

“Not trying to hate, but this music sucks.“ Brenda said flipping through the station.

“You know, you have a lot of complaints for someone who chose to be here.”

“No dear, I chose to attend school, you made me stay here.”

“Ok, Get Out.” John laughed

“You really work my nervous.” She said, joining him.

“Hey B, thanks for coming.”

“No prob, you know I don’t mind. What is it about this place you hate so much?”

“I don’t hate it. I’m just different.”

“So you Gay, who cares. How big a deal could it be?”

“ That’s nice in theory. But I’m expected to be someone, a man like my father.”

“How stupid does that sound to you. You’re not your father. Your John, sweet, smart, cute and GAY. That’s the real John, the man I know and I love. I’m sure everyone else will to, but you have to be honest.”

“How do you tell the world you’re a shark when you’re surrounded by fish.”

“ You let your teeth show.”

“Ok, ok, lets stop before we fight. Look we’re almost there.” H said pointing to a sign that read “Welcome To Basingstoke.

John cleared his throat, trying to push the lump of fear away. What was he so afraid of? 21, years old, successful student, great job and to boot, he was with the must beautiful woman, he’d ever seen. So what could go wrong, things couldn’t be as bad as he made them.
Serenely if he’s grown, so has his friends. Right
