CHAPTER 1: The Beginning
John sat there as Steven walked off, that is the last time they would see each other. John went off to
Oxford, to become a lawyer. He never came out, he eventually married Christina not much after their
wedding they had a son named John jr., but everyone calls him Jack, as not to confuss the two of them.
John jr. looks just like his father not as tall and he always kept his hair short, but otherwise they where
the same. They also had a daughter named Elizabeth but everyone called her Lizzie. When the children
where still young their parents separated, John never loved Christina and she knew it, she wanted
nothing to do with him or their kids because they simply reminder her too much of their father. So John
was left a single parent. He wanted to start his own law firm but he couldn’t do that now so he moved
back to Basingstoke, and joined his father’s firm.
Steven finished school, it was hard, people can be cruel. While still in school he had great help from his
English Teacher which made him choose to become an English major at college. The funny thing is
Jessica became an English major too. They went to the same school and had almost all the same
classes together. The became very close. Not much after starting College Steven met Mathew, Mat for
short. He was the love of his live everything he could want in a live partner. Mat was going to be a doctor,
but had to take a few English courses, so they end up having a class together which is how they met.
Mat left college a little before Steven, but when Steven graduated and got a job teaching at a local high
school they moved in together. Jessica became a school teacher as well, but she taught little kids. They
remained good friends. Some time pasted and Jessica had no luck with guys but she so desperately
wanted a child, so she thought artificial insemination. Steven thought she was crazy but she was going
to do it, but she just couldn’t find the right guy. One night Steven gets a call from her asking if he would
be the father, he ofcourse said no, but he wanted children too and that was impossible for him and Mat,
so he agreed. Jessica gave birth to not just one baby, but twins a boy and girl. They both look exactly
like Steven, the daughter was named Birdie, due to the fact when she was born she gave out this loud
shout you would have sworn a seagull would have made. The son was Ben, named after Mat’s father.
They spent all their holidays together and Mat and Steven got the twins on the weekend. The twins called
Steven, dad and Mat, Matty but sometimes they would call Mat daddy if they wanted something. On their
sweet sixteen they where going to have a party just the family, Jessica realized she left the gifts in her
desk at school, so she drove out to get them. Steven, Mat, Birdie and Ben waited for her but she never
came the phone rang, Steven picked it up and a pale look came over his face, Jessica was in a car
accident, she didn’t make it. The twins moved in with Steven and Mat, Ben and Birdie had to share a
room, they hated it. Not to much later Mat told Steven he had a job offering at a hospital that would
pay almost twice of what he is making now, he even found a house near by that was perfect for the four
of them and there is a local college that is looking for a new person to head the English department.
Steven was so happy he was wondering why Mat didn’t tell him before. Then Mat said it was because
they would be moving to Basingstoke. Steven thought about it for days and decided so I will have to
move back to Basingstoke, so I am an adult now I am not afraid.
The house was beautiful, it was in front of a great deal of woods. The twins loved the outdoors. Birdie
loved being outdoors she was a bit of a photographer, just like her father her big thing was landscapes.
She also loved to dance and sing. She took ballet classes for years and took singing lesson almost as
long. She use to on Christmas entertain her family by singing Christmas carols and giving a personal
performance of the nutcracker. Ben loved the outdoors too he loved playing sports like soccer, but what
he loved the most was his cherry red motorcycle, which he called baby. All day he would wash, clean, fix
and toy with baby, it was his reason for living.
Birdie love to dance and sing, but what was her big thing was, exploring with a camera. She would go
out everyday and take pictures of the surrounding areas of their new home. One day she stumbled on too
the most beautiful place she had seen, flowers everywhere, but she had run out of film and it was getting
late so she figured she would come back tomorrow. The next day she woke up early, made herself a few
sandwiches in case she got hunger and grabbed her radio because she can only go so long without
music, what can I say she is addicted to the radio. She put down the basket of sandwiches and blasted
the radio and began taking pictures of the flowers. then suddenly one of her favorite songs came on the
radio “Save the Last Dance,” she dropped her camera and began to sing and dance to the music.
At this time two boys where jogging through the woods. It was Jack and his best bud Evan Granger, as
in the only child of Kevin “Asshole” Granger. They where running through the woods and suddenly
they heard the music.
“Do you hear something or is it just me?” Evan asked.
“I think it is music,”Jack said, “In fact I think I hear singing to,”
“Lets go check it out.” Replied Evan.
Jack and Evan ran to see where the music was coming from. They came upon a girl in a light blue
dress, with short brown hair blowing in the wind, dancing around singing to her radio.
“Boy she is cute.” Jack said.
Birdie noticed the two boys and stopped what she was doing.
“Hello” Birdie said with a big smile.
“Hi” Jack and Evan almost said in unison.
“Do you live around here?” Jack asked.
“I just moved not to far from here.” Birdie replied.
“Oh, well I am Jack and this is Evan.” Jack said as Evan waved to her.
“I am Birdie” Birdie replied.
“Birdie that is a funny name.” Evan giggled.
“Oh haha.” Birdie said with a sarcastic tone.
“Well we should probably get going.” Evan said.
“Are you sure I have some sandwiches if you want them, I not going to eat them.” Birdie said.
“Yeah, that will be great and we can talk some more.” Jack said with a big smile across his face.
“Wait hold on.” Birdie shouted.
“What?”Jack said.
“Let me take a picture of you two, okay.” Birdie said.
“Okay” Jack said.
“Sure” Evan said.
Birdie took a picture of Evan and Jack and then sat down and started taking the food out of the basket.
Jack grabbed Evan and they went and sat next to her. They talked about life, sports, family, anything you
could think of. It was clear Jack was totally into Birdie. It started to get dark so Birdie said she would
have to get home so her parents don’t worry. As the walk away Birdie turns around.
“Hey wait.” Birdie yelled.
“Yeah.” Jack said.
“Do either of you have a pool?” Birdie asked.
“I do.” Jack said.
“Can we go swimming tomorrow?” Birdie asked.
“Sure that would be fun.” Jack said.
“Good we will meet here at eight okay.” Birdie said.
“Okay.” Jack said.
They went their separate ways, Birdie went home and Jack and Evan went to Evan’s house, Jack is
staying the night. Birdie opened the door and found her family moving furniture and opening boxes.
“Where have you been?” Ben asked.
“Out taking pictures.” Birdie said.
“Well we found another box of yours, Boy! do you have a lot of stuff.” Ben said.
“ I am a girl what can I say.” Birdie replied
Birdie picked up the box and dragged it up the stairs to her room. She began to unpack it. Jack and Evan
got to Evan’s house jumped onto the couch turned on the TV and eventually fell asleep there. Birdie
finished unpacking the box and realizing the time she set her alarm and went to bed.
The next morning the alarm went off and Birdie woke. She took a shower through on her robe ran down
stairs ate a quick breakfast and then ran back up the stairs to put on her bathingsuit, but it was nowhere
to be found. Then she remember that she put it in one of Ben’s boxes because she had forgotten to
pack it and all her boxes where closed. She ran to Ben’s room, he was still asleep she began digging
through his stuff then Ben woke up due to the noise and rolled right off the bed.
“Fuck!” Ben shouted as he hit the floor ”What do you want?”
“I need my bathingsuit.” Birdie said. “Here it is.”
Birdie pulled out her bathingsuit from one of the boxes, it was red and hugged her in the right places.
“Why do you need your bathingsuit?” Ben inquired.
“Because I am going swimming with these two cute guys I met yesterday.” Birdie said.
“Excuse me you can’t just go over to some guy’s house you don’t know.” Ben shouted.
“ Yes I can.” Birdie said with a smile.
“Well I am coming with you.” Ben replied.
“Why?” Birdie said with a frown.
“Because you can’t go alone, I like swimming and I need a man in my life.” Ben said smiling.
“You slut, you just want to hit on them.” Birdie said giggling.
“So” Ben said.
“They are straight, you can’t hit on them.” Birdie said.
“ I can tell if they are straight or gay, I have great gaydar.” Ben said smiling.
“Fine you can come.” Birdie said.
Ben grabbed his swim shorts, they where navy blue and went almost to his knees. They where a bit big
so they hung under his hips which made him look so yummy. Birdie and Ben where the first to arrive
they waited a few minutes then Jack and Evan appeared. Jack was wearing a pair of black shorts they
where lose but tight enough to show off his form. Evan was wearing a pair of red shorts with two white
lines down each side and they cut off a little under his knees. Jack was smiling until he catch sight of
Ben, his smile became a frown.
“Who is your friend, Birdie?” Jack asked.
“This is my brother Ben,” Birdie said.
Jack smile returned” Is he coming with us?”
“If you don’t mind.” Birdie said.
Before Jack could say anything Evan blurted out “Sure” with this big smile on his face.
Jack said that he and Evan would lead the way and for them to follow. As they walked Jack grabbed
Evan’s arm.
“ Thank God he is her brother I thought he might have been her boyfriend.” Jack Said.
Behind Jack and Evan are Ben and Birdie. As they walk Ben leans over to Birdie.
“Evan is hot and I am very sure that he is gay.” Ben said.
Birdie looked at him with a puzzled look” Are you sure?”
“Yes Evan is gay.” Ben said with a big smile on his face.
