CHAPTER 1: The restoration of love
They sat on the bench in the park talking, the very same park where they first met.
"John, what is it you wanted to talk about?" Steven asked.
"I need you back, I cannot live without you." John started to plead his case but Steven stopped him.
"John, we cannot go on like this, it has been three years since Prize Day, three years since I said goodbye to you, and two years since I got over that day, but I will never get over you." Steven cried back.
"Steven, please just here me out, that's why you came."
Steven nodded in agreement.
"I have felt alone since that Day, that Day I not only lost you but I lost myself, I love you and I always will, I just wanted you to know that and this." with that John kissed his former lover in a short but passionate kiss.
"John, I know, but I cannot go on living a lie. hiding from my parents, telling them that I am not seeing anyone and you cannot go lying to your parents." Steve argued.
"Steve, babe, I am prepared to do all that for your sake and my own. I am prepared to tell the world of my love for you."
"John, you can't just do it for those reasons, This has to come from your heart and soul." Steven replied.
"Steve, I want to prove to you that we can be together and I. . . we will be free of the lies." John cried.
"John, I cannot keep trying to convince myself that you will not hurt me again, I need something more than juist your word." Steven told the near crying man.
"Steven, tell me what I need to do to convince you to take me back."
"I don't know, that's why I am asking you. Please tell me."
"I just want to be happy again, John, I don't want to have live in fear that something might happen again, I want to be free of all the fear that you might hurt me again."
"I promise that I will never ever hurt you again, please I beg of you."
"John, let me think about it, and can I get back to you."
"I don't want to rush you or anything but when can I have my answer?"John asked.
"You will have it in two hours." Steven replied.
John was excited by the news, he was so happy that Steven was just considering taking him back.

As Steven walked in the front door of his home his mother greeted him.
"Steven, how was your day?"
"Great mom, I saw . . . . er John., we talked and he wants me back, he said he couldn't live without me." Steven
"John, are you sure that's wise, after what he did to you." Sarah inquired.
"Mom, he just asked me to consider it, and I am, I have wanted him to say he is sorry for so long, Mom I love him, I always have, please no matter what decision I make just be happy for me."
"I always am, but think carefully, Steven."
"Don't I always." Steven replied.
"No you don't, do I need to remind you of 3 years ago." Graham piped up.
"GRAHAM, how dare you say something like that to your son!" Sarah screamed at him.
"Sorry Sarah, but I am right......"Graham replied as he was cut off.
"No your not right, Graham, Steven doesn't need to be reminded of that day over and over again." Sarah continued to scream at her husband. Graham sat in his chair dumb founded.
"Steven, just ignore him."
"I always do mom."
Sarah laughed at her son's remark. Steven bolted up the stairs to his room to think about the one question that was on his mind.
[Do I forgive John for what he did and go back to him or do I forgive and ask just to be friends] Steven ran this thought through his mind continuisly over the next hour and half.
"Mom, I am going back to meet John, I'll be back soon, if not I'll call you."
"Steve, wait. What have you decided?" Sarah asked.
"I think I am going to get back together with John, but I will stress that we need to take it slow." Steven told his mother.
"Just as long as your happy then I'll be happy." Sarah told her son.
As Steven walked out of his home down the path to the park.
"Steve, did you think about it?"John asked.
"Yes I did, and I have so many things to say, so let's sit down."
John was scared to see where this was going and tears were starting to well up in his eyes. They sat down on the very same bench that they had met a few days earlier and three years before.
"John, let me start off by saying how much I love you, I always have and I always will."
John sat there finding it unbearable to wait to see what Steven was getting to, it seemed like Steven was purposely tormenting him.
Steven continued to speak.
"John, I will take you back, but on two conditions, you have to tell your parents and your friends, and second, I don't want to have our relationship hidden in the closet, finally I think if this is going to happen we have to take it slow." Steven finished speaking.
John's eye's lit up."You really mean it, you're not fooling me.?"
"I'm not fooling you, I really mean it."
John jumped and embraced Steven into his arms, hugging him and kissing him passionately. Steven broke the kiss. "I said slow."
"Okay, will you help me tell my parents?"John asked.
"Do you think that is wise, they might be able to handle the fact that you are gay, but to find out that you have a boyfriend, that they may not be so accepting of."
"If they can't handle it, then I don't want anything to do with them, if they truly love me then they will have to accept you as my boyfriend."John stated.
"If you need me I'll be there for you."
The two men sat on the bench talking for another hour, catching up on old times.
They got up and parted ways for the day and made plans to meet the next day, to go over to John's and speak to his parents.
"Oi John." Someone shouted.
John turned to see who it was.
"Fuck me, what is he doing here."John muttered.
"John, mate, what are doing back, last I heard you were finishing up at Oxford."
"Yeah, I came back for a couple of days."
Kevin was puzzled to see Steven standing there, but not at all as surprised the two lovers to see Kevin.
"Kev, is there something you wanted." John asked.
"No, just thought I would say hello."
"Kev, what are doing later on this week."
"Nothing much, working at the construction site."
"Well I would like to talk to you about something that has been bothering me for quite some time."
"Sure anything for you boss."
Kevin left and walked away from John and Steven.
"Are you sure you're ready to tell him?" Steven asked.
"It doesn't matter if I am ready, all that matters is that I have you to guide me."
Steven's eyes glowed along with his heart, John always knew what to say.
"Okay, but don't let his anger get to you."
